The Problem with Government
In my opinion government is a "necessary evil" - it is required for any society to function and yet, its very nature is its downfall.
In private enterprise there is a profit incentive that governs business. If a business is going to survive, it must provide a product &/or service that its customers want and are willing to pay for. In a free market economy that generally means being productive, efficient, customer oriented and always looking for ways to reduce administrative and operational costs.
In government there is no profit incentive. On the contrary, in order for government entities to grow and become more powerful, the bureaucrats that run them must increase their administrative and operational costs. Bigger government gives them more power, influence, money and control. Lastly, governments are monopolies. And monopolies are almost always inefficient and unproductive. When you combine a "no profit incentive" with a "monopoly", it is simply inevitable that governments are going to create more problems than they solve. For these reasons, I believe we should limit the role of government to only those functions that are necessary and reflect the will of the people.
